The head of KfW MENA department Mr. Marc Engelhardt along with a delegation from KfW Lebanon and the region, visited an Employment Intensive Infrastructure Programme (EIIP) project in Mouhamara, Akkar – namely– the Renovation of the Mouhamara Public School, on February 1, 2023. The EIIP is a programme under the International Labour Organization, funded by the German Government through the KfW Development Bank.
The visit consisted of a brief on the works done highlighting decent working conditions, on the job trainings, occupational safety and health, effective inclusion, and many other aspects of the Environmental and Social Safeguard Framework. The mayor also highlighted the importance of this project and the sustainable and long-term impact it has on the community, the students and the education sector in the village and the area.
The visit was followed by a technical tour around the school highlighting the added value of the labor-intensive approach under which the project and the EIIP programme operates.
It is important to mention that as of January2023, this project has generated 23,479 workdays to more than 572 Lebanese and Syrian workers, out of which 14% are women. Currently, the project is in its final phases with minor works, expected to be completed by end of February2023.
